On 24 November 2016 the 13th Beta PhD Symposium will take place, followed by an interesting Beta reunion.
During the symposium 10 PhD students of the Beta Research School will present their research. A detailed program can be found here. The abstracts of all presentations are available online.
Afterwards the Beta reunion is organized. Almost 20 years ago Beta Research School for Operations and Management and Logistics started as a national research school. Since then, many staff members participated in Beta. Besides, a lot of PhD students have completed their PhD thesis within Beta and this resulted into the 200th Beta PhD defense that will take place this year. The 20th birthday and the 200th PhD defense is a good opportunity to organize a Beta reunion for all current and former Beta members, PhD students and alumni. On November 24, 2016, Beta would like to welcome all of them for an interesting program. First, Will Bertrand, the first scientific director and designer of Beta, will give a brief historic overview of Beta, focusing on the first years of Beta. Thereafter two alumni, Albert Douma and Johan van Leeuwaarden, will reflect on their time as a PhD student within Beta and in what way their PhD degree has contributed to their career development. Geert-Jan van Houtum, current scientific director of Beta, will conclude the meeting with an insight into the last couple of years and a look into the future of Beta. The meeting will end with a celebratory drink.
