Boosted by the fast development of the e-commerce, a tremendous number of packages is flowing into these megacities. The high population density in megacities, alongside with the increasing delivery orders is challenging logistics companies and policy makers. To efficiently satisfy customers’ growing demand for delivery services in megacities, sustainable and low-cost solutions for urban delivery are essential.
To contribute the challenges logistics companies are battling with, we formulate the following two main research questions:
• RQ1: How to design efficient and sustainable distribution strategies in megacities?
• RQ2: How to develop models and planning algorithms to support these distribution strategies?
To answer the research questions, we develop three work packages aiming at contributing to both the design of distribution strategies and the development of suitable planning algorithms.
