The research project SYNERCIZE (SYnchromodal Transport NEtworks for a Construction Industry towards Zero Emissions), led by Layla Martin and Nevin Mutlu, focuses on developing synchromodal transport networks for the construction industry, with the aim of drastically reducing harmful emissions. The project was recently given the green light through funding from TKI Dinalog.
My contribution is to design a flexible operational policy for the synchromodal construction and demolition transport network, including translating the practical transportation problem into a mathematical model, designing an algorithm which can react to the uncertain demand patterns or any delays in time which are features of construction projects; reduce the coordination overhead between cargo owners and logistics providers at a minimum.
