Mental Healthcare institutions are experiencing high demands while dealing with scarce recourses. This leads to an inbalance between capacity and demand, and excessive patient waiting times, which is not only undesirable but can also have negative effects on the patients’ health. My research aims to address this challenge by developing methods to use the available resources as efficiently as possible such that waiting times can be reduced. In more technical terms, the main goal of this research will be to develop multi-appointment planning solutions, in a multidisciplinary setting, for single and multiple mental health departments. This includes aligning capacity to demand on a strategic and tactical level through capacity planning and patient admission planning. Additionally, optimal scheduling of personnel and booking of patient’s appointments are considered. The main objective of the models will be to reduce patient waiting times while also considering staff utilisation and overtime and budgeting constraints.
