The war in the Ukraine showed how the global supply chain of food can be disrupted by events such as a conflict, especially affecting some vulnerable countries. Given this issue, we want to assess how vulnerable countries are to similar disruptions, where the import from a country is suddenly decreased. We will combine measures about the dependency of countries on a small number of trade partners, with measures on the vulnerability of exports from these partners. Possibly we will also focus on disruption of chokepoints in global trade, such as the Suez Canal. Having analyzed the vulnerabilities in global food trade, we will research how the vulnerability of these countries can be reduced, with the ultimate goal making the global supply chain of food more resilient to trade disruptions.
