First-mile Logistics and Distribution Networks for Mixed Cropping Systems

Start Date Research: 10/01/2023
Mixed cropping systems focus on potential crop mixtures on a field as a sustainable alternative to conventional agricultural production. Using mixed cropping systems increase the biodiversity on the field, decrease the usage of pesticides and helps with disease control. In this research project, we investigate alternative supply chain structures to scale-up mixed cropping systems in a sustainable way, optimizing first-mile logistics, distribution networks and post-harvest operations. For this purpose, decision models will be developed, which can be used to evaluate the economic viability and sustainable performance of the studied alternatives.
