The logistics sector in The Netherlands is growing; however, due to societal resistance, its license to operate has been undermined. The goal of the project is to develop policy frameworks and a data-driven instrument to identify and select locations where logistics real estate can generate the highest societal value per square meter and the greatest impact on broad prosperity. Our current research approach for this is to start with a systematic literature review on how welfare concepts like broad prosperity have been operationalized in spatial development literature. Building on that knowledge we then want to zoom in on the Dutch logistics sector and determine what indicators are relevant there and how these can be operationalized. These indicators are then combined with research from Erasmus University Rotterdam on the spatial layout of Dutch logistics real estate (multi criteria decision analysis), to create a GIS system which assists municipalities in policy development and advises real estate developers. A final paper then performs a practical case study of this model, as to validate it.
